This is one of the older issues in the collection, and it gives us a good look at how TV Guide has changed just as much as how television itself has changed. There are still a good number of local shows, a lot of 15-minute programs (a carryover from radio days), and as I mentioned on Saturday, preemption and rescheduling are everywhere. Even with all the political talks today, though, I think you can still find some of your favorites from this Minnesota State Edition, that includes some stations in North Dakota, something we don't see much of in our later issues.
In case you had any doubts, the sponsor of Studio 57 was Heinz 57. According to the always-reliable Wikipedia, it was one of the last series to air on DuMont before the network went belly-up; after that, it was in syndication. Fun fact: the pilot for Leave It to Beaver aired on Studio 57, appropriately enough, in 1957.
There is no truth to the rumor that "You Can't Escape Forever," the episode on Lux Video Theatre, and Bored to Death, the 10:50 p.m. movie, both have to do with the plethora of political talks on TV this week. Although I do remember an election night a few years ago with one of the movie channels, TCM I think, had the movie Bullets or Ballots. So who knows?
If I understand all these things correctly, Boxing from St. Nicholas Arena aired on DuMont until August 1956—practically the final programming on the network. However, this isn't August; it's November. The footnote is that WABD, the DuMont affiliate in New York, continued to broadcast the fights after DuMont crashed. Ergo, my suspicion that those local broadcasts were syndicated to stations around the country, including KMGM.
