Well, here we are in St. Louis this week. And it's a good week; we continue to see new series debut, and there's still a sense of excitement about the rollouts, since none of these series have bombed yet. Check out Tuesday and see what you think.
That's quite something to have here the debut episode of Marcus Welby, M.D. The ad says, "Robert Young returns to television." He certainly did; the show, which ran for seven seasons (longer than Father Knows Best), was the first ABC series to finish the season rated #1 in 1970-71.
Earlier this year we saw mention of Ed Nelson's show in another market, and our Mike Doran pointed out that this was, in fact, the Ed Nelson, fresh from Peyton Place. As our friend Amanda mentions at Made for TV Mayhem, Nelson's most famous - or infamous - guest was Nathan Leopold, of Leopold and Loeb infamy. Nelson gave up his show after a year to go into politics, although his plans were crimped by a judge's ruling that his television acting appearances would require his opponents to be given equal time.

I mentioned this on Saturday, but it bears repeating: Iron Butterfly on The Red Skelton Hour. Think about that for a moment. They perform "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," naturally - it must have been the shorter version.

For those who think stock news began with CNN and Fox, the financial report beginning at 9:00 a.m. proves otherwise: "Continuous stock market reports and financial news through 2 P.M. A five-minute news and weather report is telecast hourly from 9:30 A.M. through 12:30 P.M. (Live)" Interesting - I wonder what that show was like.
